How will Scotland's place in the world change?
Wednesday, 18 March 2009 14:42
With Independence, Scotland will at last be able to represent itself to the world on international bodies like the United Nations. The SNP wants to see Scotland as an enlightened, outward-looking country, with its own role to play in working for increased international co-operation, particularly in standing up for the rights of the developing world. Experience has shown that small countries have often had a diplomatic role to play in brokering international deals on peace and reconciliation, and this would be another opportunity for Scotland to act in the wider international good. Scotland will also continue to be bound by existing international treaties and agreements such as the European Convention on Human Rights. The SNP favours membership of the Commonwealth on Independence.
